I'm sitting in a red Subaru traveling 90 miles per hour on Highway 10 between Los Angeles and Phoenix. The sun in blasting through the window hitting my pale skin wearing a tank top that reads; "Skank". The blazing 90°f is hitting my body but at the same time I'm feeling the cold, refreshing breeze from the air-condition. If you ever drove on this road you know that it's about a 80 miles ride straight, as the last part of the highway. The smell isn't doing much for me, it's a mixture of dry desert air and the air-condition smell. Mac Miller is blasting on the stereo like so many times before as we keep going. I take a sip of my ice-cold Sprite as we approach Phoenix, we pass a sign that says "47 miles", to go. And I see it, we're approaching a small town, what catches my eye is the signs that say McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell and Carl's Jr. I catch a breath in this hot but cold car as I say "You want pull over hear to get some food?" - "Yeah sure, I could eat" Sean says.
As this is happening, I was thinking about how awesome my life was in this right exact moment.
We've just been to Joshua Tree Park and I'm on a big vacation visiting one of the few people over in America that I actually can relate too. The thoughts of him now being that "interesting" during the years online made me wonder, why? Someone hosting one of the biggest KZ-clans ever created.
What does it take to do something like that? What did he put in? How did it feel?
So the first time I met Sean "Gangien", was probably back in 2004, a while after I got invited to the PhooGi clan by dr0psys. At this time we didn't talk that much and being as young as I were I wasn't the best at talking to people. Later though we all enjoyed being on ventrilo-servers together, dr0psys, gangien and me. And of course allot of other people. Later we talked day by day with each-other, which wasn't a big problem then, since I was in school and times weren't like it is now.
Gangien talking, dr0psys rapping allot and doing other musicstuff, he 's the one that made me the song for "The MBTV"-intro, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6PjA9rtk4A. Nowadays me and Sean talk almost everyday, about good and bad, he's grown to be a really good friend.
Moxx: Thanks for agreeing to talk to me for a while, Gangien. Who's the man behind all this?
Gangien: My name is Sean, I'm a software engineer by day and gamer by night.
Moxx: So Sean, you've been involved in Kreedz climbing for quite a while, how did it all start?
Gangien: Well, it started when I was playing in a pub in 2004, and a guy name Sra.MooN was bhopping and I tried to do it. Basically he was just strafing in a circle and bhopping every so often. And basically able to do the same. Then a bit later he asked something along the lines of if i wanted to go play a jump map. Never heard of such a thing before, but we went to a server (gorillas south) and it was on valleyclimb. He told me how to use check points, and I beat the map using check points and holding w. Added that server to my favorites and thus my addiction began.
Moxx: So being involved that long you probably recorded a few records here and there too?
Gangien: Yeah a few. The XJ record history thing is missing a few of mine even. I had marioland and crused_tomb a long time ago.
Moxx: If I remember correctly you had 1337blocks for a long time, how come you stopped fighting for it?
Gangien: Haven't had it in over 2 years. Maybe some day I'll get the motivation.
Because people got better than me. Though I still think i could take it back, but it would require more dedication than I've felt like giving.
Moxx: Okay, yeah I can see how other prioritations take part when time pass, what do you do nowadays? Play any KZ at all?
Gangien: I play it a bit. On average still a few hours a week perhaps. But mostly other games like Heroes of Newerth, or whatever new game that comes out and i feel like playing, like Diablo 3 which i played for a bit.
Moxx: I see, HoN catched quite a few of the KZ players over the years.. Were you ever involved in any communities such as kzmaps/XJ or others?
Gangien: I was an admin of sorts on both kzmaps and xj a while back. And kz-na too, when it wasn't dead.
KZ-na was a site that spawned out of kz-usa, after some disagreements mostly between dropsys and the owner of kz-usa. Basically me and dropsys then started kz-na, and most of the people went with us, but it was pretty much dead not to long after that. I had some interesting ideas, like record list that contained records from the various different communities and servers. It was a cool concept but just became such a pain to maintain, because if someone like xj changed their record list page, I had to change my regular expressions to match it. With I think it was over 10 different communities, I gave up pretty fast.
Moxx: Ah dr0psys, what a man, may he rest in peace. You've somewhat recently been the leader of the clan PhooGi, how did the idea of PhooGi start and where is it today?
Gangien: PhooGi started by a guy named Moos3d. It was basically started after he aquired the server that was owned by hadoken. I don't know where he came up with the name, but anyways, he recruited some people like dropsys. At first I didn't want to join, but one day sucky was invited and then I asked if I could join. After awhile moos3d stopped playing and I asked if I could take it over, so I've been the owner for a few years now. Today it we're still around, perhaps not quite what we once were, but we still got fairly active KZ and bhop servers.
Moxx: The PhooGi servers still being active after years and years, how is that possible? I haven't come over many servers than been up for that many years and still grow strong. Do you think that has something to do with the feeling and "realness" most people in PhooGi has? Because personally I've always felt that people in PhooGi have been more "real" so to speak than others trying to act up more than they need to.
Gangien: Could be, we're a pretty relaxed clan, imo. You go into some servers and you get weird rules or you get double jumps or noclip. We don't have that crap. Just basic stuff like a timer, check points if you want and a top15.
Moxx: I see. Being a player for this long and being invovled in one of the biggest clans in KZ history must have been interesting. What's the best part from the past, and what's your favourite part these days?
Gangien: I don't know what would be the best part. I guess I'd have to think and see what I could remember. My favorite part these days is just having a game I can waste an hour or 2 on if I'm bored.
Moxx: Okay seems like we got alot of the big stuff, wanna go for a few shorties?
Gangien: Sure
Moxx: McDonalds or Taco Bell?
Gangien: mmmmm Mcdonalds.. Well taco bell is nice but I prefer not spending too much time on the john.
Moxx: Beer or Drinks?
Gangien: I like starting out with a couple of beers then moving onto rum and coke.
Moxx: Nice choice, no doubt what you'd choose between Vodka and Rum then.. What about favourite beer?
Gangien: Free.
Moxx: Okay, last but not least; Is it true that you tried to bodyslam Moxx at a hotel in Las Vegas 2012?
Gangien: I don't remember that. I do remember throwing my shoes or something..
Moxx: So to end this, thanks for taking the time. What about shout-outs or last words?
Gangien: Shoutouts to my homeboy,
dropsys, RIP. RIP

Sakto,
