This week we interviewed
Lolz, The amazing trick-jumper and skillful kz player who is known for his swift and very unusual bhop style, we also added another movie section where projects are the focus. Enjoy the read!
Zippow: Hello lolz! First of all thank you for accepting this interview, tell us about yourself.
Lolz: Hi dude, my name's Hertoghe Benoit. I'm born on 28/02/1992 (so I'm 20 now) and I come from Belguim.
I enjoy doing sport like 4 times per weeks and meet friends
Zippow: how did you get involved with kreedz and what made you continue playing it through all these years?
Lolz: I started playing counter-strike in 2005. I discoverd KZ in 2005 with my brother but I didn't really pay attention to this mode.
In 2006 I started jumping on 'Classic maps'. I tried to do some jumps of these movies : TrickJumps Movie 3 and Ryd - The movie.
Then I discoverd KZFR and xtreme-jumps and I started playing KZ every days durings many hours.
I always enjoy jumps on normal server/maps and with people who can't jump like us. They always watch us like "cheater" because we just learned how to "control" cs engine and not only "how to shoot". That was a big motivation for me.
I liked make tricks jumps and play normal cs so I never been bored of KZ
Zippow: You're known for having very rapid and unusual bhops, one would say that it nearly looks like 100aa when you are bhopping. Did you somehow practice to obtain this style or did it come naturally?
Lolz: It has come naturally when I was trying trickjumps. That was in 2009 when I was doing trickjumps for FoF who accepted to make a movie for me.
I didn't have enough LJskill to perform big trickjumps like Faker, ndR did but I could do something with my bhops. I was searching something creative and watchable.
Zippow: From what I know you recently joined the kz team in insilio, are you planning on recording in the future?
Lolz: I'm gonna try some WR this summer if I have time. In september I'm going to Australia so I won't play for 6 or 9 months.
Zippow: Well how about that. Do you have any particular maps in mind?
Lolz: Yes I have. I'm gonna try to rape kzm_cityhops and kz_kzfr_mariocastle. I have a lot of idea but I'll not tell for more suprise.
Zippow: Glad to hear, May i ask what you will do in Austrailia?
Lolz: Increase my english skill, meet people and having fun
Zippow: That sounds lovely! I wish you best of luck with those maps and i'm very excited to see what will happend. Could you please give me some information about your computer equipment?
Lolz: Mouse : Logitech g400
Settings : 800 DPI, Windows standart, Ingame sensitivity 1.3 (with rINPUT), Mousefix via Software of Logitech + acceleration fix via game properties
Mousepad : Steelseries QcK Heavy (450mm x 400mm x 6mm)
Keyboard : Basic from my first computer and razer arctosa
Monitor : Samsung 2233rz @ 1680x1050
Zippow: From what i know "farewell" was supposed to be your last movie. Will you participate in the comming inslio movie that they plan to make?
Lolz: Why not. If I have time to find trickjumps (hardest part), yes I will !
Zippow: What players do you favour in kreedz?
Lolz: I have many good players in my mind but my favorite 2 players are shNz and koukouz.
shNZ : I really think he can rape every speed_maps. His bhops and dd skill are awesome. Just watch some cosy rec of him and you'll understand.
Koukouz :He is the one who has many qualities in this mode. He learn fast, he climb fast. Seriously I watched him many times and he always impressed me. He can do speed maps like hard maps.
Zippow: Okay, time for quick questions
Zippow: Favorite food?
Lolz: Chicken with pasta and vegetables
Zippow: Favorite movie?
Lolz: Jurassic Park !
Zippow: Favorite kz map?
Lolz: kz_kzse_toonworld
Zippow: Favorite kz movie?
Lolz: hard choice but Potatismos
Zippow: Thank you for this interview, I'm sorry that it was very basic and very brief but my time is limited this week. If you have any shoutouts or anything to add please do.
Lolz: Yes I would like to thanks FoF, level2, DiENOS, 8ball1 for my movies and my friends list steam ;D.
Lolz: Thanks dude for your time
Community news.
As you who follow the news here on XJ might have noticed we have gotten 3 new admins,
prad ,
Cobrex and
NeW. I just wanted to welcome these guys again and wish them the best of luck with their adminship's on behalf of the community.
There's also been made a new poll about wether we should implement official routes on various kz maps, This subject is very interesting to discuss seeing as we are the official kreedz community and you can take part in the discussion here
Ever heard of insilio? I bet you have. The prestigeous kz/hns clan that roamed around during 2007-2011 was recently resurrected by
Sitka and their new homepage is found here. Rumours say that they also plan to make another community movie that will be made by
Sinz.
MOVIE REVIEWS
Alphazz - The Movie
Alphazz headlines and is the star of the show in this energetic film crafted by
ViDtam. I have already mentioned that the film is energetic, and it shows in its pumping music and aggressive editing. However, the editing is quite intrusive and makes it difficult to comprehend exactly what is going on and it has the potential to even annoy the viewer. Despite the editing, the jumps are quite impressive, and the music complements the energetic environment being captured in the film. Overall, the experience left me feeling stressed due to the powerful editing; sometimes it's best to just let art speak for itself and not lather it in additives to the point of incomprehension.
Balcer Some Jumps 2
Balcer stars and directs in this simplistic yet impressive film. Jumping along to the rapping of Nas and Damian Marley, he shows off some very skillful tricks as well as his elegant strafe style. The movie is fairly simplistic in terms of editing, but also has a high FPS meaning a smooth and engaging experience. Although there are a few campaths, that is just about where the editing stops, and compared to other films being released nowadays it falls short in the editing category. This movie didn't astound me or blow me away, but that doesn't make it bad. It was a pleasant experience; nothing more, nothing less.
Deathclaw 257
As you might know already,
FreestyleR's incredible 257 Longjump block got tied some days ago by the well-known kreedzer,
DeathClaw. He managed to do it with only 257.087 stats, 9 strafes and 0.031 jumpoff, which is a breath-taking performance. Ofcourse, we must wait for eDark's statement about this jump, but as far as I can tell,
DeathClaw didn't use any cheats judging by the fact that he's a well-known kreedzer, owning some WorldRecords too. The .dem file, stats + movie can be found here.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: A Discussion of Style
One of the great things about Kreedz is that every player does things differently - there is no "go-to" style that is superior above all others... or is there? While we can't say for sure, what we do know is that each player has a distinctive "style" that makes them unique from all the others - not only in strafes, but also in mindset: the way they approach obstacles, turns, and also decision making that factors in risk, confidence, state of mind... among other ulterior motifs. And it's true, although it isn't clear at first, "style" does in fact refer to more than just strafes (even though no two strafes are different; like snowflakes). So now that we've established a clear definition for style, let's do some application: we all know that
koukouz is likely the best Kreedz player of all time, currently; but no one seems to wonder why exactly he is so good. I'd like to think that it is mostly because of a mindset situation, coupled with determination and aptitude: he chose to world record kz_world, one of (if not) the longest official maps out there, and with a pretty good run to boot. Kreedz can be mentally daunting at times, taxing the player with a constant fear of falling or missing a bunnyhop, or a shortcut, or anything of the sort. The very best players are the ones that push past all of this - they don't let a daunting jump stop them; rather they look at the jump and want to figure out what makes it daunting, and how to circumnavigate that, and make it easy. All famous players exhibit this behavior, and have all done things individually to make themselves legends:
heL^_x shocked the Kreedz world with his run of kz_synergy_x,
zhady dominated the scene for a very long time and set exceptional world records, among others. These players all exhibit different and unique strafe styles and methodologies, but the most important ones that decide whether a player goes on to become a legend, or becomes another average Joe are the ones that are "under the hood," so to speak.
PROJECTS
You all know
Phinx the moviemaker, right ? Well,in case you don't, go check his official channel. He is currently working on a new movie "Scout to da movie 2" starring
kafds and
jondee, which judging by the name, the only weapon used will be "Scout".
Phinx told us that it won't be a 2man movie, but the demos are sweet, original and very creative. What can we say more ... it will be a pretty awesome movie.
DRUNKEN THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK
"Time isn't wasted, when your getting wasted."
So what's up with people that long-jump thinking their good players of KZ?
I mean clearly, most of the people that long-jump, only long-jump, their skills in jumping normally is very limited. And yet they consider them-selfs KZ'ers?
Should players spending 1-20 minutes concentrated to beat a record be even compared to people spending less than 2 seconds? What's the skill in doing long-jumps? Pretty much anyone can perform relatively good after a short amount of time, if they just put in the time. Since it's only one technique. But on the other hand people that record demos for maps, such as kz_px_eaglecliff or even kz_sandblock need to put in so much more effort to be able to use their skills. Like we're talking about multiple techniques used in a run for however long.
This is why, me personally think people that consider them-selfs "good" at KZ while they only do long-jumps; are full of shit. Sure there is some skill undeniably, but if you compare doing a push-up and running a marathon, clearly there is a difference. So big up to all the real KZ'ers out there, recording demos, having fun and clearly enjoying it.
So you gotta ask yourself; if you can do one part of a marathon but sucks at the rest, do you really have it in you to do marathons?
I believe not.
