/!\ Map changes:
kz_kzsca_pyramid, kz_xj_caseblock_h, risk_lego_firehouse:These maps have swapped places between Stage #3 and Stage #4 after some feedback from the players. This is to ensure that the tournament keeps a fair level of progression through each phase.
Gametype: Multi-stage tournament:
Stage #1: Qualification - 32 players (could be extended)
Stage #2: Main Group Stage- 16 players
Stage #3: Challengers Group Stage - 8 players
Stage #4: Double Elimination Playoffs - 8 players
Stage #1: Qualification [Melee-like format]
All players will be divided into random groups according to the amount of people who signed up. Out of everyone, only 16 will advance to the Main Group Stage.
All groups will have a melee-like format [everyone vs everyone] which will be used throughout 3 maps that will be the same for every group.
Each map will have a 5 minutes timer where the players will have an unlimited amount of attempts to do their best possible time on the map, given the time limit, of course.
Once the players have managed to do their best possible time on each map, the sum up of their total time [map1 + map2 + map3] will be used to determine the final rankings from both groups.
Not only these rankings will display who will advance and who will be eliminated, but also it will determine the seeding of the players for the following stage.
/!\ The players who cannot finish a map within 5 minutes will be punished via adding extra 5 minutes to their total time, which would inevitabely affect their ranking/seeding.
Thanks for the original pictures of the format by blackelf
Stage #2: Main Group Stage
The remaining 16 players will be divided into four groups, where the initial matches will be determined by the seeding the players have aquired in the first stage of the tournament.
As always, the seeding will be used to match-up the strongest seed vs. the weakest seed until the closest ones in strength will face each other. These measures serve the purpose of having less amount of upsets, where the best players will be ensured to have the highest chance of advancement.
Each group will consist of a double elimination Bo3 1v1 format. The winners of each group will directly advance to the upper bracket playoffs [4 players total advance], while the last places will face elimination [4 players total eliminated]. The second and third players from each group [8 players total] will advance to the so-called challengers group stage, where they will battle for 4 spots in the lower bracket playoffs.
An important thing to note here is that the seeding of the winners will be calculated through the maps win/loss ratio [Highest = 6:0 ; Lowest 6:5]. In case of a tie, we will use the original seedings from the first stage to determine who will have the higher seed for the upper bracket playoffs.
Stage #3: Challengers Group Stage
8 players from the previous stage will fight against each other for the remaining 4 spots in the lower bracket of the playoffs.
This stage will also use the same modified melee format from the first stage of the tournament. However, there is one key difference and that is the amount of maps as well as the timer limit for the players to manage their best possible time.
There will be 5 maps total in a single group. The timer of each map will vary from 10 minutes to 15 minutes according to the length of the map. The sum up of the total time from each map [map1 + map2 + map3 + map4 + map5] will be used to determine who will advance and who will be eliminated. Similarly to stage #1, it will be also used to determine the seedings, and consequently the initial match-ups for the lower bracket playoffs.
/!\ Similarly to Stage #1 the players who cannot finish a map within 10 or 15 minutes will be punished via adding these 10 to 15 minutes towards their total time, which would inevitably affect their ranking/seeding.
Stage #4: Playoffs
8 players will have advanced to this point from the last two stages. [4 from the Main Group Stage and 4 from the Challengers Group Stage] The playoffs will consist of the popular Bo3 1v1 double elimination format, except for The Grand Final, which will be Bo5.
As mentioned before, the initial match-ups for the Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket will have already been predetermined due to the seeding involved. As such, the immediate match-ups after those, will also be affected by the seeding, as shown down below in the format picture. However, once the tournament reaches past the Lower Bracket Semifinals, the matches will no longer have any use of the seedings and the tournament will proceed according to the standard double elimination match-ups until its logical conclusion.
While Stage #1 and Stage #3 have a predetermined map pool, which all players would have to play regardless, Stage #2 and Stage #4 would use the pick/ban map veto system.
In order to remain faithful to the different stages of the tournament, here's how we picked the maps:
Stage #1: 3 short maps (bhop/climb/mix) that would give just enough time for a player to do his personal best within 5 minutes. All of them are considered to have easy difficulty.
Stage #2: 7 maps per group. Each one consists of a balanced amount of bhop/climb/mix maps which ranges from easy to average difficulty considering it is still early stages of the tournament. One slide map is also present in all 4 groups.
Stage #3: 5 maps with medium length (bhop/climb/mix) that could vary from easy to hard difficulty. Considering that you have 10 to 15 minutes in this stage, players should be more than capable of doing a respectable time.
Stage #4: 14 maps total, 7 at the beginning of the playoffs and 7 at the ending. No easy or speed maps here. All of them range from average to hard difficulty, focusing a little bit on longer maps as well. A balanced amount of bhop/climb/mix and a mandatory slide map.
Before the 1v1 matches starts, the administrators will use a plugin that will determinate randomly who is going to ban first. After that, with the help of a map veto plugin in the server, the following will occure:
First ban rotation:
1. Player1 bans first
2. Player2 bans second
3. Player1 picks first
4. Player2 picks second
Second ban rotation:
5. Player1 bans first
6. Player2 bans second
7. After player2 decides his second ban, the last map will be used as a decider in case the result is 1:1
