Good evening XJ!
We planned something a little different for this year - the podcast(s). It might be a thing that this website has been missing, and it's time to find out.
The first podcast will be hosted on my Twitch channel, but I won't be the lone speaker.
For this time, hoLy and Johnny will join me, and perhaps a few more guests.
What can you expect? What are we going to talk about?
• A debate about the last year (regarding demos, players, changes in administration, rules)
• What will be happening in the nearest future of XJ
• An insight to new (not so well mapped) techniques
• Q&A for admins and players, you can prepare anything you would like to ask us about. You can be asking on Twitch chat and there will be a special Discord channel created just for Q&A.
• 26.1.2019 18:00 (CET)
Interview with hoLy by Hardbitter 3's in the extended newspost!
Hardbitter 3's : Hello, hoLy! Tell us a little bit about yourself. Just as much as you wish to.
hoLy : Hey, ShoCk ;) Well... My name is Romain, I'm french, I turn 30 this year and I play CS since the 1.0 version (more like 1.1 to 1.5, starting in a "cybercafe" when I was 11). I started to get interested in KZ in late 2006 then decided to register an account at XJ in late 2007. I'm known to be the leader of insilio for a few years now but not only, I guess. A few people consider myself a "speedmap specialist" as I've been dominating public servers between 2015 and 2017 on these particular short maps. I have achieved a few WRs at Cosy for a few years as well and still do from time to time. Before that, I started by longjumping a lot and eventually landed 255 lj block (my other lj records aren't that good, only my 272 wj block might be decent enough to be cited).
Hardbitter 3's : What about your personality outside of internet? :)
hoLy : I'd say that I'm very passionated by music and "movement" from FPS games and in particular, you name it, Counter-Strike. I always wanted to build a "smooth" style with the lowest sensitivity that I felt like I could enjoy playing with. Movement is an art in my mind.
When it comes to music, my biggest dream is to become a vocalist... I sing a lot (clean singing, beatboxing, screaming) even though I still consider myself very amateur-ish... I also listen to a lot of different music genres such as Metal (Death Metal, Metalcore, Deathcore, etc), Rap (US and FR, etc), electronic music (Psytrance (Forest Pystrance and Dark Psy, etc), Minimal Techno, Dark Techno, etc), etc etc etc. A lot of "etc"!
Hardbitter 3's : Interesting stuff! So what about your recent status on XJ as CEO? How is it going overall?
hoLy : I was pretty scared in the first place since XJ is way bigger than what insilio is... But so far, I have to say that my admins work flawlessly and day by day, the stress induced by such a position is reduced significantly. I feel like we revived this community a little bit and I'm pretty happy about it. It would have never happened without the help of a few people like Hardbitter, shooting-star, fykseN, iNsprate, p0ker, FAME and ropz with his amazing tournament that helped us a little bit, I'm not gonna lie... Also, shoutouts to the demo, map and movie admins that do a pretty good job so far! I'm probably still missing about a few more awesome people that made, what XJ is nowadays, possible.
Hardbitter 3's : Thanks for the mention! Could you say you've collected a team of your dream? Or is there still gaps that need to be filled?
hoLy : For the moment, I'd say the team is pretty much filfulled! But in the near future, we might need more admins like weekly writers or cup admins. We badly need a new website before though...
For example, I personally believe that KZMod is not represented well enough. We could revive the game by letting it have its own frontpage somehow. It most likely would be possible with a new website and as we speak, we're seriously considering it.
Also, the current website is way too old and have too many issues to deal with. It would be very cool to have a completely new and fresh website for everyone, at this point.
Hardbitter 3's : How far along are you with this new website? If this is something you can share with though?
hoLy : At the moment, we're still gathering ideas... We're about to make a final list, thought. The building of the new website could start pretty soon I'd say, hopefully!
Hardbitter 3's : Woah! That's some REAL news! :fingercrossed: Can you reveal some more about this new site? Are we going to see something cool there?
hoLy : Well, let's just say that we could build something much "bigger" than what XJ is today ;)
Hardbitter 3's : Alright. You meantioned cup admins. We haven't seen monthly cups in a while now. What exactly kind of cups do you plan?
hoLy : When it comes to cups, we probably will start to do a cup at least every month (hopefully) in the near future since it's a big interest within the community and I'm also aware that some members are even building amxx plugins for such events!
Hardbitter 3's : I've been dreaming about good old irc cups :D. And knowing the weeklies are planned out brings some warmth to my heart! What do you think about the recent mega poll? Any chance it helped you in any way?
hoLy : To be honest, I didn't expect to appear in that mega poll since I joined very late in 2018. Being literally "first" made me proud of myself for sure... But again, I'm not alone behind the scenes! I hope that administrating this community gives me enough confidence to build another career in the future!
And yes, it helped me because pretty much everything (except some cases) that people want to see more in 2019 is planned to be done in the future. It feels great to realise that I (and a lot of my admins) weren't wrong about most of the things I wanted to do for XJ since I became CEO!
Hardbitter 3's : What has driven you towards the CEO position? Which motives?
hoLy : I believed (and I wasn't the only one, obviously) that the previous CEO was doing a terrible job overall. Since I have a lot of free time in real life, I thought that I could replace him and do a better job, pretty much.
Hardbitter 3's : Can you promise to the community that you'll step out as soon as you feel worn out? :D
hoLy : This is one of the first things I said to faker when we were discussing about XJ, Ovidiu and the management in general. I didn't want to become CEO to necessarily gain a "title". XJ isn't only about me.
Hardbitter 3's : What is your attitide towards cheaters and basically rule breakers? Are you a supporter of carrot or stick method?
hoLy : I don't like cheaters. Especially when they're pretending to be legit. It's such a waste of time... Lack of honor, lack of respect and lack of education. You're pretty much a weak human being in my eyes if you're cheating in online games.
Hardbitter 3's : How is insilio going btw?
hoLy : Lately, I enroled a few very good players that I think might make insilio still shine in 2019 :) On a side note, I feel like the competition between kz-random and insilio is very strong nowadays.
Hardbitter 3's : I hope some day there'll be a competition event between the teams :) While we're on this, have you ever considered to record for XJ? You grind them maps on pubs but there hasn't been a single record from you on XJ as far as I'm concerned?
hoLy : I'm simply not good enough for XJ, I guess. I really want at least one XJ world record, though. I'm thinking about grinding one map but I don't know which one yet...
Hardbitter 3's : What about mapping? You're a builder of a couple of famous maps. Do you still map and are you even perchance part of the mapping team?
hoLy : I stopped mapping long time ago, it doesn't appeal me anymore, I guess... Even though, while not being part of the mapping team, I still help them (or any other mappers) in the mapchecking process from time to time!
Hardbitter 3's : Which section of XJ lags behind the most in your opinion?
hoLy : KZMod section for sure. Its integration on XJ is a mess, honestly. Also, the mapchecking section could be better when it comes to communication between map admins and mappers...
Hardbitter 3's : That's true! What about CSGO? Is there any plans regarding the game being part of XJ?
hoLy : We're thinking about it. It could very well be a new integration in the future, especially if we get a new website!
Hardbitter 3's : There've been a lot of discussions about it being belated, do you think it's still worth the business? What is the intention behind this? Do you want to conquer the world scene or would it be just another addition for our current "insider community"?
hoLy : The intention is to offer the community a website that feels more refreshing, with better functionnalities and a proper design. And also the possibility to connect more than one game into one website is one of our wishes inside the administration.
Hardbitter 3's : Is there any estimated date on when to expect it being done?
hoLy : As of now, I'm afraid to have to say: No.I have no clue how much time it needs to build a new website. I won't be participating in the construction of it so I can't answer this question at all, I'm sorry.
Hardbitter 3's : Is the ROTW #200 ever coming?
hoLy : The story behind the ROTW #200 is special... I won't go into details but to this day, we still have to find someone to make something "worthy" enough... In reality, the "trailer" you've all seen was the actual ROTW #200...
Hardbitter 3's : What about the KZ BOOK? Just kidding! Any idea what happened to the 24 hours challenge?
hoLy : Well, I guess it was too short of a tournament to begin with. It might have happened in a period where most of our community was busy with real life as well (christmas, new year eve, etc).
But I'm sure PU9maker will come with another idea in the future!
Hardbitter 3's : I love PU9maker's ideas! So, as we're hitting the end of this interview, is there anything more you could shed the light on, regarding plans of XJ? Or if there's anything important left off to be asked about?
hoLy : I would like to remind everyone that I'm not by myself behind the scenes. It's a big teamwork. Regarding XJ's future, I don't want to spoil too much :p I just want to thank everyone who has helped me since I've been in that position. Without them, I would barely have done anything. Thanks to you too, Hardbitter... I mean, ShoCk! For taking the time to make this interview!
Hardbitter 3's : Thank you so much for being there for us, hoLy! It's because of you in the first place, that we're flourishing again! Cheers!
