As many of you already know now, we suffered a serious loss.
Denis 'FAME' Petrenko, passed away between the 27th and 28th of April, at the age of 28...
Denis was a true pillar of many communities. We will remember him as helpful, kind and hard working person.
A friend, an authority. An exceptional player, the well of knowledge. Someone who never gave an incomplete answer to your questions. As his friend "allejack" pointed out, FAME always had a lot of passion for our community, and that he wanted to help us grow. This tragic situation brought us all back together, and together we mourn...
Let the earth be light to you. We loved you. Rest in peace, Denis.
"I know I speak for everyone when I say this. FAME has one of the biggest hearts.
HAS, because he will always have his fingerprints in what our community is all about.
FAME was a very introvert person, never wanted to disturb anyone but always listened to what you had to say. He listened and gave you the correct answer. We spoke about programming, we spoke about my decision to leave the community after all these years, he said that he was sad and wished me and my family good luck with everything in the future. After that, he messaged me. He said that "You got me thinking the other day", after 40 min conversation about life in general and my perspective about it.
A lot of tears were falling 7th May 2019, because we lost a very loved person. We love you brother and you will never be forgotten."
"I'm speechless... I remember how important FAME actually was in this administration.
Without him, a lot of things simply wouldn't have happened. I also remember why I ended up granting him the CTO post after a while even if he never asked for it. FAME probably was the most useful admin XJ ever had. He was truly humble. What an awful loss...
I'm really saddened at the moment and just hope that the community will be able to surpass this tragedy...
Rest in peace, mate."
"I'll write something short, because I'd like to say a lot...
FAME was one of the best persons I've met on the internet. I considered him a friend, but he always seemed like a mentor, I guess I was not the only one who enjoyed a talk with him, he knew about everything, and most importantly, he was always willing to help, he was one step ahead in that matter, I have only words of respect towards him, and that's what he deserves.
I feel fortunate that I was able to share a lot of conversations with such a great person, I will never forget him, he's been the pillar of both XJ and Cosy-Climbing since 2015, a true encyclopedia, but most important a great human being, very humble and truthful.
What else can I say about the notice of his departure, when I saw fykseN's post on Discord I couldn't believe it, I felt goosebumps, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that cried, I couldn't avoid crying... I'll really miss him, the way he was is something to really value. I only hope he's in a better place, I have no doubt all the effort he put into the community for these years will be remembered, he definitely left his mark as player, demochecker and as a really good person. Rest in peace..."
I remember how I met FAME for the very first time 10 years ago.
Playing KZ for a day or so I used to talk to everyone and ask a lot of stupid questions.
Only few people responded. Denis was one of them. It was so easy to talk to him.
We had a small conversation about LJ related stuff and it makes me really sad that I won't be able to have another chat with him. FAME was a person who always tried to help if you were asking for it. He went to spectators to watch you and tell you what you did wrong and how to improve it. How to improve your strafes, how to gain more speed, how to do this or that the right way. And I was not the only one, back in 2009 there were a lot of people playing and I don't remember a single time when FAME refused to help someone. Countless hours were spent in Steam chat and on CS servers. Chatting, playing, sharing some silly experience and talking about recent KZ/LJ achievements. We always found a topic to talk about and I knew that if you ask Denis he would always tell you something new, something you didn't know before.
It almost felt like he never had a bad mood. Always calm and steady, ready to help at any time. FAME was my idol throughout the years and he will stay as my idol forever. R.I.P."
